Lightning

Newsweek has an interesting article about Mark Twain, an author I never gave much credit to when I was yawning my way through Huck Finn back in 10th grade, but one I think I ought to revisit now.

Here's what he had to say about word choice:

“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter—it’s the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

I just love that.

Thanks to Edittorent for mentioning the Twain article.

Thanks for sharing - Mark Twain was a unique man. While not everyones favorite author, I still get mad when schools ban his books not only from their classes, but libraries as well. You can't erase history!
